Buying a laptop is a tough choice for many out there, with technology becoming so prominent it's hard to find do something that isn't digital. There are a lot of laptops in the market with so many features that it becomes hard to pick one which is just right for your kind of work. There is no single kind of laptop because there is no single kind of laptop user.
There is no fixed kind of answer to the question, so I have made a list for you, which might help you in deciding which one could be best for your type of work.
1. PROCESSOR
When it comes to buying a laptop this is probably the biggest factor which might be a deciding factor in choosing which one to buy. The processor is probable one of the most important part of any laptop and when you are going for a laptop you should consider a good one.
Now there is no definitive guide as to which one you should choose, but I will try to suggest you the best as possible. Now People use laptops for different types of purposes. So, my advice would be like this
a) Normal office work: If you are a person who does lots of office works like sending emails and working on just MS Office, then you should consider buying one with i3 processor, at the time of this writing this guide intel has 10 generation chips as it's latest. So, if you 10 gen or the 8 gen i3 then this will just be enough for you. It has enough power to do office work and watch online videos and compression work. You are good to go
If you are not tight on a budget and you got the money: Then you should consider going for an i5(8 generation or one with 10 generation) chip. Having an i5 chip will probably be best for whatever you do, you probably won't have to worry about any kind of lag.
b) Programming and coding:Programming and coding really requires more power from the CPU then you should probably go for something higher than an i3. There could be two scenerios.
a) if you are tight on a budget then you should probably consider a min of 8 GB of RAM and an Intel i5 chip (8 generations) if you can't afford it then 6 or 7 gen chips will be best as well for you.
b) if you are not held by any kind of money constraints then you should probably be going for something higher then 8 GB of RAM like 16 GB probably and i7 chip (8 gen or the latest 10 gen chip). This will probably be best for you.
C) if you are a gamer and video editor then the choices are more or less similar to mention at point b.The only addition for you will be a GPU(Graphics processing unit).
Well, that's my choice for you.
NOTE: YOU might have noticed I did not mention any AMD chips/processor. Well, they are good on performance to, actually they kind of cost less than intel chips, you can buy them too do a little research on what kind of user you are and choose the processor that you would wanna buy.
Buying an older intel chip is also alright like the 6 or 7 generation chips. Have a min of 4 if you can 8 GB of RAM and you are good to go.
2) RAM: RAM if a very important thing to consider when you are going to buy a laptop if you have a fast processor and you do not have enough amount of RAM then you are just wasting that power.
Having more amount of RAM mean you can do more of multi-tasking run more apps simultaneously.a) If you are a normal user then most probably 4 GB or ram is enough for you, you do not need more seriously.
b) If you are a programmer you should consider having 8 GB as a min or 16 GB at max.
C) if you are video editing or designer or a GAMER you should choose for 8 as min and higher if possible.
3) Battery: Battery life is very important when it comes to productivity and a laptop with having to plug it in every time is a constant struggle. Normally with all the video watching and working and internet surfing, that takes a lot of battery away, and normally the company quoted mark doesn't always take this into consideration too.
A good practise is to look at the battery rating in Wh(Whatthours) or milli-amphours(mAh). The larger the figure the longer the battery can last. For eg. if you have a battery with 50-60 Wh then it can give you an good amount of battery life.
4) Storage: Storage is a big factor when it comes to buying a laptop, we all have to store family photos and images and large files and software. As time goes on you might want to add files and having good storage is always handy for you.
Now as you might have heard that SSD's are gaining a more prominent voice in the industry, if you are considering about speed and factors like these then you should surely get an SSD it will be costlier but it's worth it. On the other side HDD(HARD DISK) is also a good option to go if you are just doing normal office work, having an SSD will not make much of a difference to you work, BUT if you a Programmer or GAMMER then you should consider having one.
IF you want to know more about SSD.
