This article mainly focuses on the Microsoft Windows operating system journey and how it has grown. In later series, I'll be discussing other aspects in much detail.
Microsoft has come a long from XP back in 2001. They took a big leap when Windows 7 was launched, it became so popular that people still use it now, with Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Microsoft introduced new features like Windows store apps and many new features.
But unfortunately, it did not settle with most of the users, mostly because of the windows 8 had the start button removed and Microsoft had to release an upgraded version Windows 8.1 introducing a start button. With much effort but windows 8 was not much of a big success.

The big change came in 29 July 2015 when Microsoft released a new Operating system known as Windows 10. and still after 5 years after its release, it has become the most used operating system in the world.

NOTE: MICROSOFT has decided to ends support for Windows 7 in January 2020. It's a saddening thing for such a large user base

If you are a beginner or want to learn about tech then you should know about how Microsoft has changed its software structure over the years. We will be talking about how Windows 10 has changed over the years.

The first edition of Windows 10 was 1024 and the latest version of Windows 10 now in 2019 is Windows 1903, over the years Microsoft has changed the overall look and feel of its most popular operating system suiting its user needs.

Making upgrading easier.:  With the version of Windows 10 upgrading to a new version has become easier.  Either you can use the media creation tool to upgrade or you can manually download an ISO file of the latest version of Windows 10.  These steps are easy and you can choose whether to keep your files or upgrade with a clean version. The only thing is your copy of Windows should be activated/licensed.

Note: In later articles, I will show how you can use the media creation tool to upgrade and how you can install Windows 10 without formatting your computer.

Microsoft Store: Microsoft store has gone through a lot of changes through its initial release with windows 8. In Windows 10 its become much better and seamless. Through the years Microsoft has added support for major apps like Instagram, Messenger, Netflix, What's App, etc. Also, lots of games are also available on the Microsoft Store apps. It also has a major gallery of themes and wallpapers to choose from.

In Windows 7 and 8 you had to  download themes for your desktop from the web, but when Windows 10 was launched they moved this feature to the Store

Windows store apps

The Settings app: If you actually used the settings app in the first version of Windows 10 then you would have noticed that they actually moved a lot from the Control panel. Windows Update transitioned from the Control Panel to the settings app.Personalization settings were in Control panel but with Windows 10 these settings have also shifted to the Settings app. Microsoft is doing its best to make the settings app better with many improvements.  If you look at how easier it is to find a setting it's absolutely amazing, when the settings app opens you can just search for a setting and then in the suggestions it just pops up. In previous versions, these were implemented first in Windows 8 and 8.1.
Microsoft trying to put more control on the settings app in the future updates more settings will get transferred to the settings app. Hopefully, we will get more control over them.

Windows Update: Windows update also shifted from Control Panel to the Settings app with the release of Windows 10. With each upgrade, Microsoft made much improvements in the way updates are given to users, with one fact that they made updates mandatory for all the uses, most of the people using didn't care about updates and a small percentage would manually update ther systems time to time. With automatic updates, they keep downloading in the background. With the new version of Windows 10 you can also select the bandwidth windows update uses for your current internet connections and you also have the options to pause updates. With the coming day more and more users are being added to the internet community and it's very important to have security updates installed and making updates mandatory Microsoft has insured that its users get the optimum protection and support.

As the rumors are that Microsoft will not put a new version of Windows but Windows 10 will get regular updates. Microsoft regularly gives versions updates twice a year. The latest being May 2019. As Windows XP reached an expiration period, Windows 7 is soon going to suffer the same fate. What Microsoft plans is to bring all the users below a single umbrella and ending support for previous OS is the only way. Well, that's all for this time, new series will be updated soon, If you got any suggestions or questions you can contact me at :
