Why you should switch to SSD?

Why you should switch to SSD?

In the computer world technology is changing quite fast, one recent change that we have seen in laptops and computers is a change from using HDD(Hard disk Drive) to SSD(Solid State Device).
Today we are going to discuss why you should consider shifting to an SSD.

ssd vs hdd

In this article, I am going to be explaining, what an SSD and HDD are? and at the end of the article a piece of important advice who are tight on budget and still wants to use an SSD.  Let's dive into it !!
SSD and HDD are both storage devices and they store data. Both are phenomenal pieces of technology. But there are many aspects were both of them cut each other at various points.
Both of them are secondary storage devices.
Many of you will be considering to buy a Laptop of a Desktop and as you see the specifications you must be wondering why everyone is jumping to SSD's. Well, I'll help you choose the right one for you.
But first, let's know what both of them are.

What is HDD(Hard Disk Drive)?

A Hard disk is a type of secondary device. It is a non-volatile memory. It is used for the permanent storage of data. Anything from games and movies can be stored in this device. It is an electromechanical data storage device that uses magnetic storage that is used to store and retrieve digital information using one or more rapidly rotating disks(platters) coated with magnetic disks.

Types of Hard Disks. They are of four types.

1.) Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment(PATA)
2.) Serial ATA(SATA).
3)Small Computer System Interface(SCSI)
4)Solid State Drive(SSD)

Yes SSD also a type of HDD. The first three have moving parts but SSD does not have moving parts.

What is SSD?

SSD(Solid State Drive) is the latest technology that we have. They are different from the three mentioned above because there are no moving parts in an SSD. They do not store data using magnetism. They use integrated circuits and semiconductor devices to store data.

INNER VIEW OF SSD

SSD

As you can see that the inner view of  SSD there is no moving part only circuits that make it fast.
No moving parts mean no friction no wear.  Data also moves quicker since it does not have to move around for platters to spin and the read-write arm to move when you need the data.

Major differences between SSD and HDD

1. Storage Capacity: When it comes to storage capacity, A Hard Disk is better as it more efficient in storing data such as games and videos. If you want more storage than HDD can be very good for you. An HDD is more affordable and a 2TB HDD is enough for a user to store all data. While SSD's are quite expensive, if your concern is to store data then you should go for HDD.

2. Performance:  When it comes to performance, the SSD performs better in comparison to HDD. SSD runs files faster and hence they will run applications more smoothly.  An SSD will always boot faster and load apps faster in RAM, and transfer files faster too. Having an HDD to perform the same tasks will be much slower and tedious no matter what the job, an SSD will perform faster in comparison to HDD.

3. Speed: This the major factor which separates the two from each other. As I have mentioned HDD has moving parts and slower. The hard drives use spinning platters so the speed completely depends on the revolutions per minute. This means if a Hard drive has higher speed it can perform a higher rate/speed. As SSD's have no moving parts, so their speed does not depend on revolutions per minute. The average speed of PCIe/M. SSD's rages from 1.2GB/s up to 1.4/GB/s.

4.Price: When it comes to price SSD is more pricey then HDD. SSD has been in the market for quite some time. SSD can be brought at low prices too. But newer ones and with more disk space the cost adds to large numbers. So, if you are concerned about the costs you should get a Hard disk.
SSD comes in many forms 126, 256, 240 and 500 GB. IF you want to try them you can try any one of the forms and then you can decide whether you want or not.

Note: If you want to buy a New PC of laptop it is recommended you get a SSD. IF you are concerned about performance otherwise it is not required a/c to me.

Golden advice: IF you want the best of both worlds then, you can try both SSD and HDD. You can install your operating system in the SSD and store you games and applications and videos and files in the HDD. IF you have seen some Laptops then you might have seen SSD+HDD. This is what it means. This is an excellent way to save money and still use SSD.
