How to tune up a Windows pc?
Windows (OS) is one of the simplest operating systems to use
and manage, its design interface makes it very easier to use and understand. If
you are new to the blog and want to learn the basics of using Windows Operating system then you can navigate and view the beginner’s series of how to use a
windows pc.
ALERT: If you are viewing this on your mobile browser and you cannot
see the details in the images easily then you can rotate your screen to
landscape mode (video mode). That way instructions in the images will be a bit CLEARER to see.
Everything needs maintenance to function well, Operating
systems are no exception to this rule if you know how to maintain your system
you will not face problems most common people face like a slow pc or other
problems. In this article, I will explain the common measures I take to maintain
my PC.
1. Manage your files well like putting them in appropriate folders: Managing files is very important when I say that I mean like putting all your videos in one file and your work and office documents in one place. They should not be left here and there when you will leave documents like that then it will be difficult for you to find information when it’s needed.
Another advice I would personally
like to give is if you have multiple drives on your computer then if you have
like too many files on your desktop like your videos and games or just heavy
stuff it’s smart to move away much of the stuff on the other drives like E:
or D: (or any drive that you have).
That way your desktop will appear clean and the load will be lifted from the C: drive (The drive where the
operating system is installed). Your Desktop is in C: Drive.
2. Using Disk Defragmenter: Disk defragmenter is a great tool to tune up your pc. This software is integrated with all versions of Windows. Let’s know more about it with an example. Suppose I give you a work where you just have to make two copies of a paper and give one to the customer and ONE you keep with yourself. One day I just drop at the office and I ask you the details of a particular customer, if you have organized your files then it will be easier for you to fetch me the details. If you just dropped the paper and just pile it up in a corner you may never find it.
This is just exactly what happens
when you store your files here and there on your computer you may have seen when
you click on a file or your opening a folder searching for a file sometimes your the computer takes time it’s just because it's searching for the file on your hard
drive or SSD (Solid-State Drive). Disk defragmenter corrects this and organizes
the files so that they are easier to access.
As time passes by the files on
your computer gets fragmented as you keep accessing them and as the level of
fragmentation increases the harder it will be for you to access your files.
Disk defragmenter will clear all of these.
To get to Disk defragmenter you
have multiple ways I’ll show you the most common ones. So, follow the
instructions carefully.
These instructions are based on
Windows 10. But the first one will work on all editions.
- Click on the start icon or search bar on the taskbar (near the start icon)> type “Disk defragmenter” and you will see the option. Click on it.
In the new window that opens as you see in the image. You
see the different drive you see available on your computer and how much is
their level of defragmentation. You will also see two options One is Analyze
and the other is Optimize.
Analyze: With this, you can analyze the level of
defragmentation that is on your drive.
Optimize: With this, you can defragment your drive. Click on
it and the process will begin. If your drive is all good then you will see 0%
defragmented. If you still see some defragmentation then don’t worry keep
running it from time to time, the stats will change.
3. Disk cleanup: Disk cleanup is a really wonderful tool to clean trash files as well as save disk space. Doing It like twice a month is enough. When you run it you will see how much you can free and you can choose which data to delete and what to keep.
Follow the same procedure click on
the search bar on the taskbar and search for “disk cleanup”. Click on the app
and it will open. or the second one mentioned above just at the side where you got optimize you will get disk cleanup click on it and it will open.
If you are prompted to select the drive, select the drive in which the OS is installed usually C: drive. Now it will take some time to compute how much data you can free from your computer. If it’s a little like 40 or 60 MB then you do not need to do it but if it’s a lot then do it. If you are an intermediate user(You have some experience) then you can also select the files to free from the option given to you as you see in the picture. But if you don’t understand what the files are then don’t check them leave them as it is and then press OK. Your files will be cleaned up.

pc up. There are more but we will discuss them in a later article. Thanks for
reading through. Be sure to share it with your friends and family if you find
it useful.
